Logistical challenges in international hotel remodeling

The logistical aspect of a large project is often the one that’s forgotten the most. For any construction project or hotel remodel to be completed successfully and in a timely manner, you must have an elaborate strategy and a perfectly coordinated team that can carry it out. Logistics is of particular importance and includes things such as managing how materials will be moved (from the smallest to the largest and most expensive ones) or specialized assets.

Materials

Depending on the size of the project, approximately up to 100 containers of 20 and 40 feet (6-12 meters) can be transported from the port of departure to the port of destination closest to the project. This is because the local industry sometimes can’t cope with the high demand of project materials. It’s a very organized process in which one must consider several aspects:

  • Local and international suppliers
  • Defining the type and amount of equipment
  • Determining a logistics center, a place where all suppliers deposit their goods. (This is usually somewhere near the port, since containers are usually moved by sea)

The logistical challenge of hotel remodeling projects anywhere in the world also implies moving hundreds of containers by sea, where logistics goes through different stages:

  • Boarding: the container is loaded
  • Transit: depending on where the port of departure and the port of delivery are, several days or weeks of sea transport are required
  • Dispatch: we have local companies that help unload the containers and move the materials to the project’s location. Once there, the Banema team unloads the materials
  • Transport on site
  • Coordination that depends on how materials are placed and used, especially according to the planning and execution of the project work
  • It’s important to pay special attention to the fact that, in many projects, the location is a paradisaical place with difficult access, such as complicated curvy roads. Sometimes the containers have had to be unloaded before moving through these roads and loading the material into smaller vehicles

Staff

Banema is known for their ability to execute large projects in short periods of time. This is only possible thanks to the team of specialists trained by the company who travel to the different projects to coordinate and train local staff. For personnel management we have someone in charge who monitors everyone’s needs.

So, as you can see, the logistics necessary to carry out a large project with every guarantee regarding materials, personnel and final result is something that can’t be forgotten about, and which is also possible thanks to a dedicated team with great experience in all kinds of projects in any location.
